Kuwait was rebuilt within a short space of time; however, the post-trauma and psychological damage is still evident in casual conversation.

The climate and weather of Kuwait is long, hot and dry summers, short and warm, sometimes rainy winters. Dust storms always occur due to rise of humidity during summer. The temperature varies from below 10'c in winter to more than 50'c during the summer months. The official language of Kuwait is Arabic. However, English is widely spoken and is recognized as the second language.

Religion

The Constitution states that the religion of the State is Islam and the Islamic Sheria shall be a main source of legislation. Islam means "peace and submission to the Will of God". The basic tenets of Islam are: that there is no God but Allah and that Mohamed is the Final Prophet of God; that God created man and the world, and endowed man with moral sense and free will and assigned him a viceregency on earth for which he will be held accountable; and that morally correct behaviour is achieved by following God's Law as revealed through the Angel Gabriel to the Prophet Mohamed.

In Islam, morally correct behaviour includes performing the religious duties known as the Five Pillars of Islam; Shahada, Salat, Zakat, Sawm and Hajj.

The Sheria has two primary sources, the Quran and the Sunnah. The Quran is the Word of God as revealed to the Prophet during his own life time.

The Islamic calendar starts from the year 622 CE, the year the Prophet Mohamed migrated from Mecca to Medina (the Hijra). Islamic years are designated in English with AH for "after Hijri", for example 1420 AH (2000CE).

Kuwait's constitution guarantees non-Muslims absolute freedom of belief and the right to practice religion in accordance with established customs'. There are several Christian churches in the country.
